The Hebrew word aph is an excellent example of how a word can be used in a literal and figurative way. Aph is literally “a nose,” but also is used figuratively as “anger,” for an angry person flares his nostrils. This also demonstrates how an abstract concept (anger) is related to a picture of action, unlike modern languages where abstract words are commonly used with no connection to the concrete.
